NEW WAVE HOOKERS (1985) 84 Minutes.
ep – Walter Dark, p/d – Gregory Dark. Cast: Ginger Lynn, Traci Lords, Jamie Gillis,

Carrera, Tom Byron, Rick Cassidy, Peter North, Greg Rome, Steve Drake and Steve
Powers as the dog.
Heavy applause is due the Dark Brothers on their stance of flipping the bird to the
world and calling themselves the new answer to great porn. But when it comes to eroticism
in adult cinema, and with the reaction shown by several (but not all) chtics, the simple story
of ‘the emperor and his new clothes’ deserves retelling. The Darks have more than a few
adult viewers totally hoodwinked.
While HOOKERS is interesting and in parts quite raunchy I take exception to critics who speak of originality and major new innovation. Since I rate on eroticism, it is fair to point out that the film is often anti-erotic, which is Gregory Dark’s purpose — to slap America across the face and to explore new depths of depravity Baker and Gillis are pals who simultaneously pop up (slang for go to sleep) and dream
about a new wave way for women to turn tricks. Hottest of the offbeat and somewhat stylish
sex scenes involves twits Byron and Powers in the award winning Ginger Lynn sandwich
scene. Dark cast the females very carefully with an eye toward their popularity and has
assembled all the right women. The marketing outdistances the erotic elements and stands
as a monument on how to push a film. The Plugz supply the original music and their tune
“Electrify Me” is fabulous and ranks among the very best ever found in porn.
Black stud Jack Baker may be known to buffs for his roles in KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE
and as drummer ‘Sticks’ for a season with Ron Howard on HAPPY DAYS. Jamie has done
much mainstream work as well and Elvira took to showing his starring role in the NIGHT
OF THE ZOMBIES horror film.
