This is the highest rated film in the book that is not especially erotic, but it is such
splendid cinema it belongs. If you enjoyed MIDNIGHT HEAT and/or CAFE FLESH, you will
most definitely want to ownT CORRUPTION. Truly, it is a thinking man’s film of the highest
order with a superb musical score laced with some great classical stuff — Moussorgsky,
Mahler’s namesake, etc. Jamie plays a man named Williams with a cryptic business arrange
ment, dealing with ambitious underling associate (Payne), a formidable and nameless man
(Gaunt) to whom he is obligated, and his grimy streetwise half brother, bhiliantly played by
Bobby Astyr. The sex is very bizarre, a mix of fantasy and reality and coldly erotic with the
real hot scene between Jamie and Vanessa.
This is a splendid allegory that allows you to have a puzzling good time with your own
interpretations of what the characters really symbolize, what the sex and love and emptiness
represent and what the film is ultimately all about. Not for everybody but be prepared for
a total film experience. The films in the book were chosen with true fans of the erotic genre
in mind, but CORRUPTION is for those who love films that challenge the mind as well as
the crotch. I spent two hours on the phone with Mahler, covering the concept and ultimate
conclusion of this film, for it demands a continuation sequel. Based on the conversation,
I’m convinced I’m closer to Mahler’s meaning than some lame critics, but the avenue for
interpretation is endless. The late Dan Shocket, the best stream of consciousness porn
reviewer, called CORRUPTION the most splendid failure ever made. He meant that as a
compliment.
